Scope:
Perform
duties to participate in the planning and presentation of programs and
events for children and teens to encourage interest in reading and using
the library, working within the limits or standard or accepted
practice. Uphold the Library
System’s mission and values in the pursuit of all duties; respect for
the individual, our organization, and the community, excellence in
everything we do, and integrity in our actions, while providing
excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
Essential Functions:
1. Participate
in the planning, development, scheduling, and delivery of routine and
special programs and events for children and teens at Main, Branches and
as an element in Library outreach programs. Identify themes and
subjects, suggest ideas for programs, participate in script development,
identify lists of library materials to support programs, identify and
communicate with outside presenters, create reading lists and
bibliographies, and upload program materials to websites, under
direction and in support of system-wide programs.
2. Create
and produce publicity and marketing materials and update defined web
pages to promote programs and special events. Monitor, Update and
maintain assigned electronic products.
3. Plan
and conduct programs and meetings for assigned teen club and in any
venue to any youth audience as assigned. Deliver and involve children or
teens in stories, rhymes, finger plays, book talks, library tours,
crafts and music. Collect and record program surveys for evaluation of
success of programs and events and record statistics.
4. Maintain
and communicate general knowledge of the children’s and young adult
collections, knowledge of Internet and other computer resources, library
policies, procedures, use of reference materials, and changes in the
Library System. Explain the arrangement of materials and Library
services, and policies. Assist youth and their caregivers in locating
library materials and information.
5. Provide
staff from other departments with youth directed reference assistance
as requested and to assist others engaged in special projects such as
School Initiatives and Volunteer programs for teens. Conduct workshops
and presentations for other staff and outside professionals to share
experiences associated with youth programming.
6. Attend
community events, develop contacts, distribute literature, solicit
donations for library programs, and meet with groups of children, teens,
and/or caregivers to promote the youth services of the Library System.
7. Assist
to train and monitor TLC volunteers engaged in programming activities.
Plan projects and program-related assignments in service learning for
teen volunteers to complete for community service credit, and coordinate
their participation at programs and special events.
Other duties may include, but are not limited to:
1. Perform or assist with any system operations, under direction, to maintain work flow.
2. Attend
and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to
integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve
problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new
developments, requirements and policies.
3. Maintain
work area in a clean and orderly condition. Ensure safe operating
conditions within area of responsibility. Perform other related duties
as assigned.
4. Monitor
patrons in the Library and remind them of Library policies as required
to ensure that the resources of the Library are fully accessible to all
patrons.
Tools and Equipment Used:
Computer,
specialized software, video game consoles, LCD projector, audiovisual
equipment, craft supplies, and common office equipment.
