Job Description :
Scope:

Perform functions to recommend, design, evaluate and implement training to promote lifelong learning efforts.  Offer system wide staff training on databases, internal and external resources and other relevant customer/public service skills. Support the Library’s Strategic Plan. Uphold the Library System’s mission and values in the pursuit of all duties; respect for the individual, our organization, and the community, excellence in everything we do, and integrity in our actions, while providing excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.

Essential Functions:

1.    Work with all staff to identify the organization’s training needs, develop a system wide training strategy based on the identified needs and submit recommendations to Manager and Assistant Manager. Share findings and recommendations with other system departments and coordinate efforts needed to meet training needs.  

2.    Develop, plan, coordinate and evaluate system wide training for staff on internal and external Library resources and Library skills.  Develop and facilitate workshops, training modules, and in-person and virtual programs for staff.  Facilitate and organize special webinars/training presented by third parties such as ALA.  Create and maintain a staff training schedule and a staff training web page.

3.    Determine if a training program can be recorded, streamed or shared with staff and patrons. Proceed to implement training and provide for the evaluation of training sessions.  Create training materials in various formats such as print, web, tutorials, webinars and any range of other technologies as needed.
 
4.    Evaluate and continually refine staff training and evaluation methods for current and future staff.  Create a system to track the progress of staff training.

5.    Maintain current awareness of and familiarity with new resources including electronic and other Library resources. Assist Database Champions in setting up training and promoting their databases.  Assist in the evaluation of new resources being considered. 

6.    Make recommendations so databases and other Library resources are displayed on web page for maximum use.

7.    Maintain and communicate knowledge of the Library’s services, collection, policies and procedures, programs, events and activities, use of reference materials, including Internet and other computer resources, and changes in the Library System.
8.    Participate in selected community events to train participants on library resources.  Determine how and what training materials can be used to assist patrons virtually and in-person.
9.    Track, maintain and report on any range of information or statistics as required. Report on outcomes of training initiatives.

Other duties may include but are not limited to:

  1. Perform or assist with any system operations, as required or directed to maintain work flow.
     
  2. Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies. 
  1. Monitor patrons in the Library and remind them of Library policies as required to ensure that the resources of the Library are fully accessible to all patrons.
     
  2. Maintain a safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
     
Tools and Equipment Used:

Computers, web, basic software and hardware tools, wireless telephones, LCD projector,  video conferencing equipment, video cameras, digital cameras, document scanners, printers, plasma screens, microphones, and common peripherals and office equipment.

Job Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree required.  Experience with training and events coordination preferred.
